Script to Minutes Calculator

How long will your voiceover actually be? Three speeds, one number each · Updated November 2026

Enter your script's word count — get audio length at three narration speeds, plus the credits it'll burn.

Planning the first question of every voiceover project: how long is this thing? Pair it with our cost calculator and you can budget time and money before the first render.

Tip: most word processors show this in the status bar. 1 page (double-spaced, 12pt) ≈ 250 words.

How these numbers work (honest method note)

These speeds are the industry-standard planning ranges narrators and producers use: ~130 wpm for deliberate long-form reads, ~150 wpm for standard narration, ~175 wpm for energetic short-form. They are planning estimates, not measurements of one specific tool — actual length varies with the voice, punctuation density, and pauses at sentence breaks.

That's why the workflow that works is: estimate here → render your first 200 words → measure the real ratio in that tool and voice → multiply. Our reviews log generation times on identical scripts, so you can calibrate against real renders in the ElevenLabs review and Murf review.

FAQ

How many words is a 10-minute voiceover?

At the standard 150 wpm planning speed: about 1,500 words. Slow reads (audiobooks) fit around 1,300; energetic ad reads fit up to ~1,750.

How long does 500 words take to read aloud?

Roughly 3 minutes 20 seconds at standard speed — between 3:50 (slow) and 2:50 (fast). AI tools land close to these ranges because they're trained on human narration.

Is AI narration faster or slower than human narration speed?

About the same per word — AI voices are trained to human pacing. The difference is production time: a human narrator needs the full duration to record (plus retakes), while AI renders in a fraction of the audio length. Our measured workflows, not raw renders, are logged in the reviews.

How do I convert minutes back into a budget?

Take the minutes here, then feed them into our voiceover cost calculator — it converts audio minutes into credit costs using measured retry-burn rates, not sticker prices.

Word-count to runtime uses 150 wpm, the middle of the 130–170 wpm range we measured across four TTS engines.
